Boosted data:

Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85 mm f/ 1.four C/Y - is a famous portrait lens made by Carl Zeiss company for a 35mm SLR system with C/Y (Contax / Yashica) mount.

Lens is multicoated thus providing contrast pictures and natural colour.

3D popular-upward effect on pictures is well-achieved past shallow depth of field with the diaphragm fully opened. In the same fourth dimension lens preserve dissimilarity on pictures at fully opened aperture.

Diaphragm being opened to F1.4, F2 and F2.8 provides little bit of soft-outcome which is very useful for portraiture work. Bokeh which can be achieved by this lens at fully opened aperture is very nice.

Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85 mm f/ i.four C/Y has a rigid and durable grade-factor and smoothly rotating comfy focusing ring.

All these advantages brand this lens very popular and increase its price on a marketplace (however price of this lens is 2 times lower when beingness compared to modern analogs).

This lens editions made in West Federal republic of germany are considered amend choice.

Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 fits well all mod SLR digital cameras. There is no trouble with mirror locking on cameras like Catechism 5D and Canon 5D mark II.

Owner reviews: Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85 mm f/ i.4 C/Y

Catamenia of utilise: 8 months

Strengths:

Farthermost sharpess in both centre and edge. At f1.four, lovely 3D result.

Weaknesses:

Bokeh can sometimes be a bit harsh. Lens tends to become dusty inside every bit like many Contax lenses, sealing not very practiced.

Comments:

I used both the f1.four and f1.ii Anniversary versions of this lens from the late ninety's to 2005, when I sold all my Contax CX/Y lenses and camera bodies. I had at different times, both German and Japanese versions of the f1.4 (AEG and MMJ). I was a beta tester for Contax in the early 2000's and I had discussions with Zeiss engineers about the relative merits of the German and Japanese made lenses. Their view was that the MMJ Japanese lenses, in pretty much every case, were at least equally skillful and often meliorate performers than the earlier AEG lenses. The machinery for grinding the lens elements in Kyoto, was newer and more than modern than Oberkochen and the T* coating was improved on the later MMJ lenses. The inspection government by Zeiss inspectors was equally rigorous.

I am thinking of re-buying an 85mm f1.4 Planar, now that I tin use SLR lenses on my Leica M240 (I already utilise the 28-85 and 100-300 Vario Sonnars). I don't specially like the 75mm f2.5 Leica Summarit I take for a lens in this focal length range. The alternative is the Leica 80mm Summilux-R, which is not equally sharp as the Planar 85, especially at the corners simply has slightly nicer bokeh. Wilson

Catamenia of use: 3 years

Strengths:

  • Bokeh!!!
  • Fully usable at one.4
  • Very durable form-gene

    Weaknesses:

Footling bit expensive. But if being compared to modern editions it is not and then expensive...

    Comments:

    Splendid portrait lens.

Tin can be used for any artistic photography piece of work. If y'all can afford it - buy it. Be sure you will not regret!
